midnight IIIa

One of my large prints I did today, of 'midnight III', with added microphotography up the top. I am actually using a different print in my major work, but they are very similar.

To add in the microphotography on this print, I printed the image on thin A3 paper, and used that as a photogram. It works basically the same as acetate, but you have to leave it for longer, so the light can get through the paper.

Darkroom Settings:
1. Microphotography on the top left: (without the negative in the carrier)
Exposure: 75 seconds
Aperture: f4.5
Filter: 4

2. Negative (I didn't dodge the microphotography that was just exposed. That way it faded in to black)
Exposure: 165 seconds overall
Burning: + 30 seconds in the black areas on the left and right. + 15 in the dark section near the top-middle.
Dodging: -30 in the top left light section. - 15 in the bottom right lighter section
Aperture: f4.5
Filter: 4

3. Microphotography - top right (did this without the negative in the carrier)
Exposure: 90 seconds
Aperture: f4.5
Filter: 4
